Four years ago, after my eighty-year-old father’s shattering divorce, I asked Dad if I could train his body to help him age with grace. Incredibly, he said yes. What followed was a crash course in love and forgiveness. Reaching toward each other, we both became more whole.
This Summer, I turned this journey into a hand-illustrated graphic novel. The first time I read it, the audience was in tears. Someone said, “That reminds me of my dad.” Someone replied, “It made me think about my son.” The story is a mirror to help people think about their own family. With this prayer—for deeper love—I’ve turned Dancing With Dad into a workshop exploring how we heal.
Part story reading, part discussion, part writing, and part dance, Dancing With Dad creates a field of depth and resonance for participants, building connection, sparking joy, and inspiring hope; medicine for these times.
This Fall, I am taking the workshop on tour, working with foundations, universities and storied venues. It this feels like a fit for your space or organization, I hope we can work together to offer it to your community in the spirit of small and mighty change.
